soul space exterior

Only a stone's throw from Enoggera Creek and green parklands, Soul Space Brisbane is an urban sanctuary perfectly nestled just 5kms from the heart of Brisbane city.

The elegantly restored hall stands nobly amidst beautiful old Queenslanders and immediately upon arrival stirs feelings of kinship and community.

"The combination of location and space evoke a felt sense of
stillness and calm without the need to leave the city"

At the entrance a cottage style garden buzzes through the seasons and a stone pathway winds out to catch your first foot fall immediately grounding that sense of arrival and fading the humdrum of the city into the background.

The combination of location and space evoke a felt sense of stillness and calm without the need to leave the city - individual and community merge with sincerity and simplicity. An old kind of magic unfolds itself.

History

Soul Space Brisbane acknowledges the Turrbal people as the traditional custodians of the Country on which Soul Space Brisbane stands.

A small history of the building in which Soul Space resides:

2013 - present

Soul Space Brisbane

Renovations saw a transformation of the hall space as well as a reshaping of the little mezzanine balcony into a breathtaking private consultation room.

Yoga on Parker

Yoga on Parker was owned and operated by a local business woman who built her own business focusing on Iyengar Yoga as well as hiring the space to many other facilitators running community events, classes and workshops.

1985 - 2006

Norwegian Club of Queensland

The Norwegian Club of Qld purchased the hall in 1985 for their first clubhouse not only in Queensland but in Australia. The building was purchased for their meetings and community events.

'The club's savings stood at well over $20,000 - mainly due to the magnificent efforts and organisation by Solveig Hove and others over the many years since the club was established. It was a dogged effort by the club's women members - each year selling craft at their annual Christmas Bazaar. Even though not the largest Norwegian Club, it was the only Norwegian Clubhouse in Australia! A milestone!'

M.U.I.O.O.F Hope of Enoggera Lodge
(Manchester Unity Independant Order of Odd Fellows)

The Hope of Enoggera Lodge was the 74th lodge to be established in Queensland as part of the Queensland branch of M.U.I.O.O.F. It was established 12 September 1887.

The M.U.I.O.O.F operated as a mutual benefit society that provided social and financial support to its members.  The society provided aid to members in times of sickness and unemployment; these benefits were obtained through joining fees and ongoing contributions. Prospective members had to apply and be voted in by local lodge members.

The image above was taken in 1985 just after the hall had been purchased by the Norwegian Club.
